The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China under the Ministry of Science and Technology recently released the 2024 National Innovative City Innovation Capacity Evaluation Report. Guiyang performed well, ranking 27th nationwide in innovation capacity and securing fourth place in West China.
National innovative cities are characterized by strong independent innovation capabilities, significant contributions to scientific and technological advancements, high levels of sustainable economic and social development, and pronounced regional influence.
The Report evaluates 101 innovative cities across five dimensions – innovation governance, original innovation, technological innovation, achievement transformation, and innovation-driven capacity – using 30 specific indicators. The data is sourced from authoritative institutions such as the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
In recent years, Guiyang has deepened reforms in the science and technology sector, fostering a series of core technologies and innovative enterprises with independent intellectual property rights. The city has actively attracted and nurtured high-caliber scientific talent while strengthening collaborations with renowned Chinese and international universities and research institutes to advance R&D and the practical application of scientific achievements. These efforts have significantly enhanced Guiyang's innovation capacity.
In the first three quarters of 2024, Guiyang's technology contract transactions surged by 50.33 percent year-on-year. The city also received approval for one new national-level science and technology innovation platform and recognized 48 new Guizhou provincial-level platforms, accounting for 65 percent of the provincial total.
