Two autonomous shuttle buses, each carrying six passengers, have caught the attention of residents in Huaxi University City, Gui'an New Area. These buses are part of a pilot project launched by Guizhou Kanshe Taiyu Tanxing Technology Co, which introduced Robobus shuttle services to the public.

The vehicles are equipped with LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, and cameras, which allow them to perceive complex road conditions. Sensors continuously detect the surrounding environment and objects, transmitting data to the control system. The buses can also recognize traffic signals and yield to pedestrians.

The pilot project in Huaxi University City includes onboard operators to ensure safety. In case of emergency or road conditions beyond the autonomous system's handling capacity, the safety operators can manually intervene using an emergency braking system.

According to the company, these autonomous shuttle services are designed for short-distance urban transport (3-5 kilometers) and will complement rather than compete with ride-hailing services and taxis.

The service will establish a dedicated route starting from Huaxi University City High-Speed Rail Station, passing through the northwest gate of Guizhou Normal University and the No 3 gate of Guizhou Minzu University, before reaching the No 1 gate of Guizhou Institute of Technology, covering a total distance of 5 km. Passengers can book rides via the "Tudou Bus" WeChat applet or at designated offline shuttle stations.
