Guiyang HIDZ promotes sci-tech innovation

The comprehensive ranking of Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (HIDZ) among national high-tech zones has risen from 42nd place in 2020 to 36th, an outstanding achievement in innovation-driven development.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the zone's average annual growth rate of technology contract transactions was 6.4 percent, as its R&D platform expanded and improved, adding 149 new R&D institutions. Technological innovation achievements have spread across various fields, turning the zone into a regional engine of scientific and technological innovation, injecting strong development momentum into the "Strengthening Provincial Capital" campaign.

Guizhou Science City, located in Guiyang HIDZ, has been approved to expand to 20.64 square kilometers thanks to its advanced innovation capabilities, which have gathered 28 national-level R&D platforms, including national laboratory branches and national key laboratories, 85 provincial-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, two national-level incubation carriers, and a total of 2,105 authorized invention patents, creating a full-chain innovation system.

Guiyang HIDZ has also collaborated with Central South University and Southern University of Science and Technology to establish new research and development institutions, including the Guiyang Gui'an Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Guizhou Green Industry Technology Institute.

Through deep integration of "industry-academia-research-application", 17 technology-based enterprises have been cultivated. Guiyang HIDZ's establishment of the Guizhou Big Data Graduate Education Base with Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University has enabled the base to participate in 271 projects with 60 enterprises, injecting vitality into enterprise innovation and development, and transforming universities' scientific research advantages into enterprises' industrial advantages.

Guiyang HIDZ will draw on Guizhou Science City as a source of innovation to build an industrial technology innovation system with an efficient flow of diverse innovative elements and dynamic institutional mechanisms, promoting the integration of scientific, technological, and industrial innovation to create an innovation-driven demonstration zone with high-quality development.
