Food expert drives Rosa Roxburghii products to market

Wang Yu, a researcher at the Guizhou Natural Products Research Center, and one of the first district-level experts in the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, has devoted nearly a decade to the study of natural products.

Wang has been based in Guizhou province for more than 10 years, focusing on developing local functional foods with both medicinal and nutritional value such as Rosa roxburghii and Gastrodia elata.

Wang's team, consisting of over 20 researchers, has established a complete system encompassing research and development, pilot testing, and commercialization. They have collaborated with enterprises to bring over 30 Rosa roxburghii products to market, including popular items such as the "Shuxing Anti-Hangover Drink" and "Sauce-Flavored Rosa Roxburghii".

To address the challenges of implementing outcomes in Guizhou's eco-food industry and the high costs of enterprise research and development, the team established a pilot-scale platform. Through this, they provide cost-effective R&D and pilot testing services to over 30 food processing companies across the province, covering all nine cities and prefectures in Guizhou.

The team compiled the monograph "Research on the Efficacy of Guizhou's Rosa Roxburghii", which outlines the nutritional value and benefits of Rosa roxburghii. They also participated in the formulation of international and national standards for Rosa roxburghii, and established the Guizhou Rosa Roxburghii Industrial Technology Innovation Center to promote the industry's development.
