Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing a larger role in daily life and industries in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province as the region accelerates the development of its AI industry.

The region is strengthening its computing infrastructure and AI ecosystem to support applications across public services, healthcare, and manufacturing. As one of the eight national computing hubs under the "East Data, West Computing" project, Guiyang and Gui'an now have a computing capacity exceeding 176 EFlops, with intelligent computing accounting for more than 98 percent.

The region is home to 27 large-scale data centers operated by companies such as Huawei Cloud, China Telecom, Tencent, and Apple, as well as 79 AI models and algorithms that have completed national registration.

An AI industry ecosystem covering computing, data processing, model development, and applications is also taking shape.

Guizhou's "Model-Data Innovation Factory," a key platform for the province's AI industry, has attracted nearly 20 companies. The province's first embodied-intelligence data factory in Gui’an can produce more than 15,000 hours of high-quality datasets annually. As of July, the region was home to 80 data-labeling companies employing 12,677 people.

AI applications are expanding across public services and healthcare. The "Guiren Zhiban" AI assistant supports more than 300 government service items, while the 39AI General Practitioner has been piloted at 29 public hospitals and 186 community health service centers, with more than 710,000 uses recorded.

AI is also reshaping manufacturing. Guizhou Tyre Co became the first tire manufacturer in China to join the global Lighthouse Network, while AI-powered robots have been deployed in industries such as liquor packaging and electronics assembly.

The digital and intelligent industries in Guiyang and Gui’an exceeded 140 billion yuan ($20.9 billion) in 2025. The region aims to build a 300-billion-yuan digital and intelligent industry cluster during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).
